10 CALL DAY FOR THE FASTEST VOLUNTEERS

From early Thursday morning until Thursday night the Harford County area received a heavy drenching of rain. During this time the Hose Company ran a total of 10 calls. The day started at 0925 with the 10-50 PI at Route 155 Level Road and Interstate 95 see story below. The day was slow until 1600 hours when the company was alerted for the Swiftwater Team to assemble at Company 5 House 3. Between the hours of 1600 and 2130 the Hose Company ran a total of 9 calls. At 1625 the 10-50 PI was alerted at the intersection of Pulaski Highway and Post Road handled by Engine 512 Rescue 551. As units were clearing the 10-50 the swiftwater rescue boxes began pouring in. At 1706 hours the Fastest Volunteers were alerted for the Swiftwater Team to respond to the area of the Winters Run Bridge and Carrs Mill Road in the 1304 box area for one vehicle stranded in high water. Shortly after the Hose Companys arrival this call was marked good intent by command and units became ready. As the rain continued to pour the Swiftwater Rescue box was put out in the 318 box area 1701 Walters Mill Road 1742 hours. Company 3 units were first to arrive and advised of a single vehicle in high water with one female subject trapped. Before the Swiftwater Team could deploy a citizen in his pick up truck drove through the high water and pulled the woman to safety. Command placed the box ready and units cleared. As Hose Company units were returning to the Bel Air area the Swiftwater Rescue Box was put out in the 1311 box area Eagle Court and Greene Road 1811 hours. Company 13 units were first to arrive and advised this incident was related to a Baltimore County box and command placed the box ready. Just as units were clearing the Swiftwater Rescue Box was put out Ady Road and Walters Mill Road in the 318 box area 1818 hours. Company 9 units were first to arrive and advised of a vehicle in high water however no one was in the vehicle. Command placed the box ready and units cleared. Hose Company units decided to standby at Company 3 House 2 Forest Hill until the next run. They wouldnt be standing by for long as the Swiftwater Rescue Box was put out at Green Road and Muskrat Drive in the 1011 box area 1848 hours. Hose Company units started on their long trip to Northern Harford County. Units arrived and pulled a subject to dry land from their vehicle. As Hose Company units were returning to the Bel Air area the Swiftwater Rescue Box was put out in the 729 box area on Saint Clair Bridge Road between Rock Ridge Road and Route 24 Rocks Road 2043 hours. The Harford County Technical Rescue Team was able to pull the elderly male from his vehicle to safety and placed the box ready. Just as Hose Company units were clearing dispatch advised Hose Company units to make their response to York County 2120 hours. York County brought the Hose Company units to the 57-3 box area on Papermill Road between Flintville Road and Route 74. As Hose Company units were enroute York County advised that they could go ready as command was cancelling the box. Hose Company units finally returned home to Company 5 House 3 as this would be the last call of the night. Out of the 7 Swiftwater Rescue Boxes no transports were made. Good job to all crews involved.
