With the impending closure of Harford Memorial Hospital in 5 months, the vastly growing population and building construction, the transfer of EMS service from volunteer to career and the overall decline in volunteer EMS personnel, the Susquehanna Hose Company will expand our EMS care by carrying full BLS Pharmacology kits. These kits will go on Rescue Engine 5 downtown, which responds on all EMS calls, and Utility 55 located on Chapel Road. This is a decision that we don’t take lightly, one we have put alot of thought into and one that is certainly best for the Citizens of Havre de Grace. Ambulance wait times can sometimes exceed 20 minutes and our personnel need to have the proper EMS equipment to perform proper patient care while awaiting for a transport unit. SHCo currently has 47 Licensed EMTs and 3 Paramedics, therefore we feel we have the properly trained EMS personnel to start this program. We would like to thank the Harford County Department of Emergency Services for their assistance in this program.
