On Tuesday at 1715 hours, the Hose Company was alerted for Marine 552 & the Dive Team to assist Cecil County units with a reported water rescue in the Susquehanna River at the Perryville Pier. As units marked up, they were advised by dispatch that there were reports of a male entering the water & never surfacing. After several side scan sonar attempts & sweeps of the area by divers, the search was called off due to night fall.
As those crews were operating in Perryville, the Hose Company was alerted at 1959 hours for the report of a vehicle in to the river near Jeans Roberts Park. Marine 552 was able to break free of the Perryville incident and made their way across the river, where they found a white SUV completely submerged just off the shore of Jean Roberts Park. After a quick dive, it was confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied.
On Wednesday morning, Hose Company Dive Teams returned to both scenes, operating in the recovery mode in Perryville & assisting with removing the vehicle from the river in Havre de Grace. Both the victim & the vehicle were located using Marine 552’s sonar system.
Our condolences go out to the victim’s family, friends & the Perryville community.
