BUSY WEEK CONTINUES WITH A TRAIN DERAILED IN THE FIRST DUE

On Friday morning the Hose Company was alerted for a possible train derailment on Ontario Street at the CSX train tracks. Chief 5 Chief 5-2 Engine 512 Engine 513 Engine 514 Engine 515 Mini-Pumper 5 Rescue 5 and Tower 5 marked up shortly after alert. Dispatch advised all units that they received a report of a derailed train with a tank car overturned. Chief 5 was first to arrive and advised there was a train stopped on the tracks and advised Engine 515 and Mini-Pumper 5 to stage their apparatus at Chapel Terrace and Ontario Street and to investigate the train. Command also advised the remainder of the apparatus to stage in the Pizza Hut parking lot at the intersection of Ohio Street and Pulaski Highway. As Engine 515s crew and Mini-Pumper 5s crew headed west on the tracks they found a box car partially derailed however the car was empty. Engine 515s Mini-Pumper 5s crew advised command that they would continue to head west along the tracks at which time command requested the crew from Engine 512 to head east on the tracks to investigate. Command also instructed Tower 5 and Rescue 5 to have their crews assist Engine 515s and Mini-Pumper 5s crew with checking the tracks to the west. After investigating the entire length of the train which contained 105 rail cars only the one box car was found to be derailed. Hose Company crews remained on scene for an additional 20 minutes and then cleared. Chief 5 Hurst had the Ontario Street command.Also during this time Cecil County Engine 613 relocated to Company 5 House 4.
