While Engine 514 was out of town on a fill in to Aberdeen the company was alerted for an apartment fire in the Canvasback Cove Condos. Chief 5-2 arrived with nothing evident from a 3 story lightweight construction condo. Engines 512 513 514 and Mini-Pumper 5 called enroute shortly after the alert. Chief 5 arrived and established the Hose Company command and Chief 5-2 assumed the duties of operations. Engine 512 arrived shortly after the chief split in to two crews and found a haze in the apartment. Crews found smoking coming from a laundry closet the dryer was on fire. The assignment was then held to two 2 engines. One crew from 512 removed the dryer from the apartment and extinguished it while the other crew started opening up the closet. No extension was found in the apartment despite heavy charring on the walls. The apartment building is equipped with an automatic sprinkler system. There was a quick response sprinkler head in the laundry closet however it was not activated upon F.D arrival. The fire was extinguished quickly and the box was placed in service.
