On Friday evening at 1808 hours the Hose Company was alerted for the water rescue in the Chesapeake Bay in the area of Swan Creek. Deputy Chief 5 Chief 5-2 Utility 571 towing Marine 552 Dive Unit 585 and Rescue 5 marked up by 1810 hours. Dispatch advised all units that they received a report of a capsized sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay in the area of Swan Creek. Hose Company units arrived Tydings Park shortly after alert at which time Marine 552 was launched. Marine 552 along with Aberdeen Proving Ground Marine 1252 and Cecil County Marine 11 made their way to the area of the capsized boat. After investigating and canvasing the area Marine 552 spotted a male subject in the water approximately 300 yards from shore. Marine 552 reached the male subject who had been treading in the water for over two hours at 1852 hours. Marine 552s crew loaded the subject on the Marine Unit at which time the subject was taken to shore and assessed by Aberdeen Proving Ground Paramedic 1291. Hose Company crews remained on scene until 1947 hours and then cleared after dodging lightning strikes due to a thunderstorm. Deputy Chief 5 Packard had the Chesapeake Bay command.
