On Monday morning at approximately 1020 hours the box was struck for a report of a condominium fire on Girard Street in the 503 box area.nbsp Chief 5 Chief 5-1 Chief 5-2 Engine 512 Engine 513 Engine 514 Engine 515 Mini-Pumper 545 Rescue 551 and Tower 531 called enroute shortly after alert with approximately 60 firefighters.nbsp Dispatch advised all units they were receiving reports of heavy black smoke coming from the top of one of the condominiums.nbsp Engine 512 was first to arrive and advised of heavy smoke showing.nbspnbspOne crew of Engine 512 hooked into the sprinkler connection for the building while the other crew advanced an 1 34 handline through the front door of the building.nbsp Crews found heavy fire conditions on the charlie side of the building with some extension into the apartments on the first floor.nbsp Due to a canal being to the rear of the building command requested Marine 552 to respond and report to the rear of the building.nbsp While remaining units arrived interior crews made an excellent stop and held the fire to the rear of the building.nbsp Also during this timenbspFFnbspRobbie Waynbsprescued a trapped K-9 and first aide was provided by Paramedic 591.nbsp The fire was knocked shortly after units arrived and crews began ventilating the building.nbsp Units remained on the scene until approximately 1200 hours and then began clearing.nbsp The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshalls Office.nbspnbspAs a side note several citizens approached the command post and stated they couldnt believe how fast the Hose Company units arrived and how fast the fire was extinguished.nbsp Excellent job by all those involved.
