At 7:33 PM Monday evening, the Susquehanna Hose Company, along with area mutual aid companies, was dispatched for a reported house fire in the 800 block of N. Adams Street.
Chief 5-1 arrived at 7:34 PM, reported smoke showing from the one-story dwelling, and requested the Working Fire Dispatch, along with EMS for a patient suffering from smoke inhalation.
After completing a 360° size-up, Chief 5-1 reported heavy fire showing from the rear of the dwelling, with exposure to the neighboring residence on the Bravo side.
Engine 514 arrived at 7:37 PM as the first-arriving engine company and immediately began making the push. Additional crews from the Susquehanna Hose Company, Level Volunteer Fire Company, Aberdeen Fire Department, Inc., Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire & Emergency Services Local F-267, and The Community Fire Company of Perryville Md. Inc arrived shortly thereafter and assisted with bringing the fire under control.
Due to the quick actions of the arriving crews, fire extension to the Bravo-side exposure was prevented. Crews were able to protect the neighboring dwelling and keep the fire from extending into the residence.
Following further evaluation of the patient’s smoke inhalation by Harford County Department of Emergency Services Medic 55, Maryland State Police – Aviation Command was requested for transport. The patient was subsequently airlifted by Trooper 1 to a Baltimore-area trauma center.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
