FIRST DUE TWO STORY TAXPAYER : 1220 SUPERIOR STREET

 April 1, 2008

On Tuesday at 1630 hours the box was struck for 1220 Superior Street Sparkles Laundry in the 556 box area. Chief 5 Chief 5-2 Engine 511 w3 Engine 512 w6 Engine 513 w4 Engine 514 w8 Engine 515 w6 Mini-Pumper 5 w3 Rescue 5 w3 and Tower 5 w6 marked up shortly after alert. Dispatch advised the Fastest Volunteers that a Harford County Sheriff Deputy was on the scene with smoke showing. Chief 5 was first to arrive at 1632 hours with heavy smoke showing from a two story taxpayer and established the Superior Street command. Chief 5 instructed Engine 515 to hit a plug on Tydings Road and supply Engine 512. Engine 512 was the first suppression piece to arrive and stretched two pre-connected one and three-quarter inch hand lines through the front door of the business. Engine 512s crew found heavy smoke conditions inside with fire showing on the charlie side. Firefighter Lee and Lieutenant Bannon put a quick knock on the fire and requested the Towers crew and Engine 514s crew to begin opening up. While the fire was being knocked Engine 515s crew conducted a primary and secondary search of the main fire building as well as both apartments on the second floor which proved negative. After removing all the windows on the building and throwing ladders with the assistance of Engine 514s crew Tower 5s crew headed to the roof to begin ventilation of the roof. While opening up the Tower found extension in to the roof area and fire began showing itself around the air conditioning units. Engine 515s crew relayed Engine 512s booster line to the crew on the roof and the Towers crew quickly put the fire in check. Command then placed the fire under control at approximately 1645 hours and instructed crews to begin salvage overhaul. Crews conducted salvage overhaul and began wracking up until the arrival of the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Crews remained on scene until approximately 1745 hours at which time Chief 5 terminated command and units began to clear. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the States Fire Marshal Office.Video Clips of Tower 5s crew opening uphttpyoutube.comwatchv6NNndanv7Jwhttpyoutube.comwatchvFSKg5C4EzBAhttpyoutube.comwatchviHlYL4nnFVA
