On the evening of Tuesday February 21st, Hose Company members met at House 5 for the monthly company training night. This month’s training included practical evolutions of forcible entry & vertical ventilation. Several stations were setup for members to rotate through, which included:
K12 Cutting Station – Members utilized the rotary saw to simulate cutting metal bars at various angles. This tool is often used to gain entry into locked garage doors & to remove security bars from windows.
Steel Door Prop – Teams of two utilized the irons (halligan & flat headed axe) to make entry through inward swinging doors.
Residential Door Prop- Members learned techniques of gaining entry to locked residential and common interior doors using a portable hydraulic ram.
Wood Roof Prop- Vertical ventilation methods were demonstrated and practiced with a Cutter’s Edge chainsaw on our wood roof prop. All wood used to build this prop was donated and our department was able get 5 training sessions out of it before it had to be decommissioned. Thank you to those who donated the wood and/or helped build it.
It was a GREAT night of training for the 51 members that attended. Huge thanks to instructors Roger Steger, Brian Minutoli, Matt Saylor & Zack Lovelace.
