He attended elementary school until the 6supthsup grade. His father Walter was the assistant chief of the Susquehanna Hose Company from 1939-51 and this sparked Jackrsquos interest in the fire company. They were able to ride the engines to the fires and once there they helped unload hoses and hook them to the fire hydrants. After the call was done they repacked the equipment on the engine and cleaned the engine back at the firehouse.
