LARGE FUEL SPILL IN THE CHESAPEAKE

 April 27, 2006

On Tuesday evening Company 5 was alerted for a sunken barge that was leaking diesel fuel into the Chesapeake Bay in the area of the city park.nbsp Chief 5-1 Chief 5-2 Engine 512 Rescue 551 Utility 571 Marine 552 and Mini-Pumper 545 called enroute shortly after alert.nbsp Chief 5-1 was first to arrive and advised there was a sunken barge that was actively leaking diesel fuel into the Bay.nbsp Remaining units arrived and crews began setting up booms until the Harford County HazMat Teamnbspamp the Department of Natural Resources arrived.nbsp It was then found that between approximately 100 and 300 gallons of fuel was spilled.
