On Tuesday morning, at 1021 hours, the 570 Water Rescue box was transmitted for the Susquehanna River near the I-95 Bridge. As units were marking up, Harford County DES advised they received a call from a female reporting her son had fallen off their boat & was struggling to remain above water. Marine 5 advised they were out with the vessel at 1034 hours, where they found an adult male clinging to a personal flotation device & partially under the vessel. The crew, along with assistance from Perry Point Fire Department’s Marine unit, quickly went into action and had the male onboard Marine 5 within two minutes. Marine 5 then made their way to Jean Roberts Park, where Havre de Grace EMS was staging. The victim was then transported to Harford Memorial Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Several years ago, the SHCo made the decision to keep Marine 5 in the water, docked at the Havre de Grace City Park year-round. This decision has proven to be the correct one, multiple times, as the Marine unit can be underway within minutes from the time of dispatch.
