Yesterday, at 4:44pm, the 0502 Rescue Box was transmitted for the reported male pinned under a vehicle, at the 7-11 store on Union Avenue. Chief 5-1 was first on scene at 4:45pm, confirmed the report and advised the patient was in trauma arrest. Rescue Engine 5 was on scene at 4:48pm and quickly began extricating the patient, by using their rescue airbags. Within three minutes of the Rescue Engine being on scene, the patient was extricated (4:51pm) and placed under the care of Harford County Department of Emergency Services Medic 1 & the EMS Supervisor. Crews immediately conducted CPR, with ROSC (return of spontaneous circulation) being obtained shortly after. The patient was then transferred to the care of Maryland State Police – Aviation Command and airlifted to Shock Trauma.
This incident serves as reminder of the importance of continued training for our members. Just 12 days ago, members conducted training with our rescue airbags and put that training to use during this incident, extricating the patient within 7 minutes from the time of dispatch, and just 3 minutes after getting on scene. Excellent job by all crews involved.
