On Monday at 0547 hours the rescue box was struck at the intersection of Superior Street MD Route 155 and Ohio Street in the 506 box area. Chief 5 Deputy Chief 5 Chief 5-2 Engine 512 Engine 515 Rescue 5 Tower 5 marked up by 0550 hours. Dispatch advised all units that they received a report of a tractor trailer overturned and the driver of the vehicle being trapped. Chief 5 was first to arrive at 0549 hours and advised of an overturned tractor trailer however the occupant of the vehicle was not trapped. As remaining units were arriving command instructed Engine 515 to throw a roof ladder to the side of the truck and assist the occupant getting down. Crews quickly established patient care and began checking for hazards. Crews found approximately 31000 pounds of corrosive materials in the trailer some of which had spilled which included cleaning products and drain cleaners. Crews were then instructed by command to begin unloading the trailer so the truck could be uprighted. During this time Engine 511 Engine 513 also responded to the scene with extra manpower. After approximately 5 hours of unloading the trailer was finally empty and the truck was able to be uprighted. Once the truck was uprighted command was terminated and units began to clear at approximately 1044 hours. Chief 5 Hurst had the Ohio Street command.The Hose Company would like to send a special thanks to Collettes Service Center The Fastest Tow Company in the Nation for their assistance with unloading the trailer. Collettes provided approximately 20 personnel and 5 vehicles which included a separate tractor trailer for the unloading of the trailer. The Hose Company would also like to extend thanks to the Harford County HazMat team for their assistance and also Golls Bakery and Pats Pizzeria which provided refreshments for crews on the scene…..including extra sugar donuts for Chief 5.
