The Susquehanna Hose Company would like to recognize Firefighters Dave Starr Phillip Thomas and Steve Gamatoria as the Firefighters of the Month for May 2008.Dave Starr was nominated for the completion of the Firefighter 1 program. In order to be an Interior Firefighter with the Company individuals must complete this program. The course is instructed by the University of Maryland Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute and meets the requirements of NFPA 1001- The standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications. The objective of this course is to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively perform basic firefighting operations as part of a firefighting team. This class was 102 hours long and was held two 2 nights a week.Phillip Thomas was chosen for going above and beyond to help out a fellow Brother Phillip put in many long hours trying to help Dave achieve his goal. From studying the book to practicing the necessary skills that must be performed in order to pass the program.Special Thanks go out to Lieutenants Terry Horrocks Paul Ishak Matty Bannon and to Firefighters Norman Bannon and Jay Bannon for their time as well. This is yet another fine example of the respect pride and camaraderie the members have for one another. Steve Gamatoria was nominated for his hard work and dedication as Treasurer of the Company. Steve spends many hours behind the scenes to help keep the Companys finances in order. Most recently the many hours he spent preparing the annual budget proposal which was approved by the membership at last nights meeting.Congratulations to these gentlemen for their hard work and dedication. These Firefighters will be recognized at the Havre de Grace City Council Meeting on June 23 2008 at City Hall.
