On Saturday morning at 0800 hours members of the Hose Company Aberdeen Fire Department Perry Point Fire Department and Water Witch Fire Company met at House 4 for a Traditions Training Class. Instructors from FDNY DCFD and Pittsburgh FD gave the students a brief overview of what the day was going to include. Crews then traveled to Perry Point and conducted the following drills-Recognize warning signs of various hazardous situations and take preventative measures.-Utilize built in features of the Scott SCBA as well as additional techniques to overcome air-related emergencies.-Evacuate untenable conditions using various techniques such as a body belay and ladder bail.-Take emergency shelter measures.-Transmit a MAYDAY and recognize when to call one.-Function as a team-member in difficult situations.The training lasted through the afternoon and then crews began wrapping up. The training was a great learning experience for all and the Hose Company will be hosting more Traditions Training classes in the future. The Hose Company would like to send a special thanks to the instructors and also to Perry Point for use of the building.
